Congratulations Mr. President!

You´re probably just as surprised as I was to hear about President Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace prize.

In my opinion, Obama fully deserves this award. It is remarkable what he has already achieved since taking office. His style of diplomacy and his long-term thinking are hopefully introducing a new era of international collaboration in a time when it is more needed than hardly ever  before. We´re entering an era that will be dominated by resource shortages. Lack of energy and water poses a threat to stability and prosperity. Climate change needs to be addressed immediately to ensure its effects stay manageable.

President Obama has come at the right time to take on these challenges.

Especially when it comes to the issue of climate change, a lot of persuasive power is needed to bring about real change. Only if Barack Obama and Chinese president Hu Jintao agree on how to counteract global warming and avoid a painful energy supply crunch, there will be prospect of progress. China and the U.S. account for more than  40% of the world`s CO2 emissions plus they´re the world´s most powerful nations.

Barack Obama is the fourth U.S. president to win the Nobel prize.

America has reason to be proud of him. Can you name any other present political leader who was awarded the Nobel Peace prize?
